Fair Chance Ordinance San Francisco Employment/Housing Policy
Description:
On August 13, 2014, San Francisco’s Fair Chance Ordinance went into effect. The Ordinance requires some housing providers and employers to review an individual’s qualifications before inquiring about their arrest and conviction record. This ordinance applies to employers with 20 or more employees, contractors with city contracts over $5,000, and housing providers that have received funding from the City. The San Francisco Human Rights Commission enforces the Fair Chance Ordinance, which regulates how conviction history can be used in some employment and housing decisions..
