Student Support Services

Student Support Services

Description:

Student Support Services is dedicated to developing policies that support quality academic services, accommodations, and modifications for inmate-students with developmental, physical, or cognitive disabilities and for those with a high risk of academic failure. These services are designed to strengthen student self-efficacy, resilience, and sense of belonging during the journey toward college and career readiness, High School Equivalency, High School Diplomas, career/industry certifications, and college degrees. The Every Student Succeeds Act program provides support for youthful inmate-students under the age of 22. The program seeks to ensure that all youthful inmate-students have a fair and equal opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency in high school content standards and assessments. The program intends to meet the educational needs of low-achieving, and high-risk students enrolled in school by providing supplemental academic support from credentialed teachers. Physical Education and Recreation is provided at each institution to inmate-students with an opportunity to participate in organized fitness and recreational activities such as basketball, track, handball, and board games. Physical education programs are based on the acquisition of knowledge and skills that are the foundation for engaging in physical activity. The program is geared to empower inmate-students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity to live a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life..
